Creating Powerful Displays Library Assistant

Lynne used her time working from home during lockdown to take the Creating Powerful Displays course. It's not easy to take online training, especially when away from work - but Lynne did a wonderful job, with imagination and creativity in applying the ideas even in difficult circumstances. The excellence of her contributions made clear how enthusiastic she is about her library and her job.

01 Looking again at how the library promotes

Lynne used the time away from day-to-day work to take a careful look at how her library created and managed the promotion of books. The course gave her a structured way to ask whether displays in her library were working as hard as they could - and to plan how to make them feature a wider range of the collection, and to come up with something eye-catching and intriguing for browsers.

02 Working from home, working with the catalogue

Without access to the physical library, Lynne worked through the course's exercises using the library catalogue itself - making book choices, looking through the collection, and bringing those titles into her course work. As she put it, the experience felt like being back at work, and the course gave her a useful way to stay connected to the books and the readers during a long stretch away from the building.

I really enjoyed this course, especially during this time when we are all away from work. It was really good to get back into looking through the library catalogue and making book choices again. I felt like I was back at work.
