Reading for wellbeing in the community toolkit

This toolkit is designed to be read or listened to on a mobile phone so it is really convenient and easy to use. It is structured in 4 parts, each of which takes about 15 minutes to read or listen to. Each section sets out clearly what you need to know, ideas to try out and ways to follow up and take it further.

You will explore how to talk about reading in ways that connect with other people, whether they think of themselves as readers or not. You will develop a new approach to finding out about books and stories to help make sure you have suggestions for anyone you may encounter. There are ideas for talking to individuals and some great suggestions for making a lively group discussion too.

The toolkit is great; it's really made me think outside the box of what a book club can look like.

Assessment & Reconnection Worker, national charity working with homeless people

You can tell how much care, thought and experience had gone into this new training for our book champions. One thing that I noticed was the language used throughout the training is matched very similarly to the language we use in our work; I shared this back to our CEO, who was very impressed.

Partnerships Engagement Lead, national charity working with homeless people

It gave me so many questions to ask & ways to explore books - I found listening while following the text helped it to bed in. I am now excited to get going on sharing the joy of reading with others for reading’s sake rather than study.

Community Outreach Worker, Freedom from Domestic Abuse charity

We just wanted to say a huge thank you for the toolkit as it looks incredible, it’s super accessible and very easy to both understand and take learnings from. The play out loud feature is also such a bonus and so helpful for us and our front-facing staff.

Corporate Volunteering Assistant, national charity working with homeless people

I’ve now had the chance to read all the modules. It has been tailored perfectly to our clients and so carefully considers inclusivity and accessibility. A huge thanks again for this toolkit, it will be invaluable. There are so many specialist areas here I would never have considered that open conversations and ensure it engages everyone equally.
